About lycra cowboy
Before you set out to castigate my parents for having the temerity to name me something so prescriptive that I had no choice but to fulfil the prophecy by embarking on such a daft adventure, I should say this isn't my real name. My given name is Shaun O'Dwyer, the old Lycra Cowboy pseudonym was just a stunt to grab your attention and lure you into joining me and (hopefully) convince you to donate to a wonderful charity. More about that later.
This is a once in a lifetime trip for which I'm grateful to have the chance to attempt. On June the 5th I'll be leaving London behind for Maine to begin a solo coast to coast bicycle trip across the USA ending in San Francisco. The reasons for it are simple enough: to get a taste of freedom, to spend time without distractions, to see a magnificent country and to challenge myself. But heck, until my backside resembles the flustered chops of an Old Etonian after a particularly gruelling fencing contest, I can't quite say how much the whiff of a prairie in full bloom will touch me. No matter what happens, you'll be able to read about it here.
In short, I'm delighted to have the opportunity to do this and I hope you'll follow me along the way. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you get some pleasure from reading about my pain. Right, it's time to saddle up, I guess.
